Three wildfires are burning in the Chetwynd area.
One is burning near Hasler, between Hasler Road and Willow Coal Haul Road, approximately 37 kilometres west of Chetwynd. At the moment, it’s close to a well site, but it is not threatening any structures. Heavy air tankers, two helicopters, and 12 firefighters are on the scene dousing the flames, with more help to arrive today. Winds are blowing it away from Chetwynd for the moment. If the winds change, the district can expect smoke in the area.
Meanwhile, the two other fires are burning near Tumbler Ridge. The first one is in the Monkman Pass in a rocky area. The fire is in a remote area, and the BC Forest Service is monitoring it. The second fire, which is between 150 and 200 hectares in size, is burning near the Monkman Campground. The campground has been closed for the time being, though no structures or wells are threatened. Firefighting personnel are on the scene.
