The RCMP wants to remind the community to secure their vehicles while they are left unattended.

Due to cold weather conditions, there are more idling vehicles in the area, with a number of vehicles with the key still in the ignition and doors unlocked.

Leaving your vehicle unattended is a violation under section 191(2)(a) of the motor vehicle act, and carries a fine of $81.

This fine can be be provided to the owner of the vehicle even if their vehicle has been stolen.

Some tips for prevention:
– keep your keys on your person at all times.
– Park in secure and well lit areas.
– Remove valuables from your car.
– Lock your vehicle.
