The Alberta Motor Association is advising people to plug in their cars to protect it from the cold. These temperatures can be incredibly hard on an engine’s component if the block heater has not been plugged in. Other tips from the AMA include topping up all fluids, driving to road conditions, and giving yourself extra time to get to your destination. They also suggest keeping an emergency roadside kit in your vehicle. The kit should be equipped with a first aid kit, warm clothes, a blanket, phone charger, sand, road salt or non-clumpy kitty litter, food and water, an ice scraper, a snow brush, a shovel, a flashlight and spare batteries.
