The BC Government has announced that they will soon provide universal, no-cost coverage for Mifegymiso, an alternative to surgical abortion.

In a release, the government says the drug can be used to terminate pregnancies up to nine weeks from the start of the last menstrual period. The coverage starts January 15th, though PharmaCare has been covering portions of the cost of the drug since last July. Patients require a valid prescription in order to obtain the drug, which they can get from their doctor after an ultrasound.

Mifegymiso will be available at participating pharmacies throughout the province.
