BC Hydro is urging people in the north to be power smart this holiday season. They recommend that people ensure that they keep their thermostats around 16 degrees when away from home, and around 20 degrees when at home. Even a 1 degree increase above 20 degrees can add five percent to your heating bill. They also suggest that people use LED lights for indoor and outdoor lights. In addition, BC Hydro advises adding weather stripping around your door can help reduce heat loss by up to 10%, and if you plan to replace any appliances, look for ones that have an energy star electronics logo on them.
