While we wind down the wildfire epidemic, Prince George is looking down the barrel of a different kind of epidemic.

The Ministry of Forests and the Industrial Forestry Service are asking the City of Prince George to work with them on eliminating a beetle infestation.

The beetle in question, the Douglas Fir beetle, has already ravaged areas outside of the city, and the ministry says they are prepared to deal with them, however they need the city’s cooperation and permission to do anything inside city limits.

The beetles currently infest over 8,000, up from 1,300 a year ago.
