Dawson Creek RCMP urge businesses to be wary of counterfeit bills

Dawson Creek RCMP are warning businesses to check currency accepted as tender following a report of counterfeit bills being used at a local business.

Officers attended the scene on Tuesday and seized approximately $1300 worth of counterfeited $100 Canadian bills.

The detachment would like to remind businesses of the security features included by the Bank of Canada to confirm the authenticity of each bill printed. Security features include a see-through hologram running the width of the bill, the raised ink on the large denomination number, and two matching serial numbers running the length of the bill. The detachment also warns that counterfeit bills may be thicker due to the paper they are printed on.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Dawson Creek RCMP. For a full list of security features, see the link below.
