Both the City of Dawson Creek and Encana will be benefiting from an agreement that will see Encana purchase reclaimed water to use for industrial purposes. The reclaimed water will be piped from a float plane base to a water hub south of Pouce Coupe for the drilling Encana has planned to do sometime this year. Dawson Creek’s Mayor, Dale Bumstead, says that the city will receive close to $500,000 for future sewer and water projects because of the agreement. Bumstead also noted the environmental component to Encana choosing to use reclaimed water for industrial purposes: “They’re not drawing water from creeks or dugouts or lakes, this is a renewable resource that for us as a City, your sewage lagoons, if you can turn it into a viable product that can be used for them, it is a great message and it generates revenue for the City.”
