The City of Fort St John Council has declared January 27th to be Family Literacy Day.
The day will be an end cap to Literacy Week, which runs from the 20th to the 28th, as a day for family celebration.
Literacy Day will feature a family oriented event with camping, scavenger hunts, and games.
The week aims to raise awareness for and begin to conquer the rash of literacy problems in the province.
According to data from the province’s only full scale literacy organization: Dakota, 45 percent of BC residents between 16 and 65, have struggles completing everyday tasks.
This year’s theme will focus on understanding nutrition.
