Fire Prevention Canada is urging the public to exercise caution as they celebrate Christmas today. They state that winter is the worst season for fires, due in large part to the use of candles and natural Christmas trees. Spokesperson Marcel Profeit suggests using electronic candles, or ensuring that candles with a flame are nowhere near combustibles such as linens and are not left burning when no one is in the room. The public is also being cautioned to keep natural trees watered and moist, and remove them from the house as soon as the holidays are over.
