Firefighters with the County of Grande Prairie were called out Easter Sunday to save several horses that fell through the ice on a pond near Highway 43 and Range Road 114. Crews says a total of ten horses fell through the ice, but they were only able to recover seven as two died from exhaustion and one from injuries. Country Fire Chief Trevor Grant would like to remind people to be careful time time of year: “Ice conditions can change from morning to afternoon, not only with people but with pets and animals as well, just being aware of that situation.”
