The controversy that surrounded the Site C Dam Project at the end of last year is far from over.
The mega-dam, which was given the all clear to continue production by the NDP government last December, is stirring up renewed controversy with a possible proponent takeover.
With China Communications Construction Co set to takeover operations of Aecon in a 1.5 billion dollar buy-out, Conservatives are taking a stand.
The Canadian company was one of four preferred proponents announced by BC Hydro for the dam, and winners of a bid to renovate the John Hart Generating Station.
Conservatives are now calling for a formal review of the Chinese purchaser, citing national security risks.
On top of this, BC Hydro is now attempting to change their plans regarding the project’s spillways and generating stations.
The company is seeking an amendment to their environmental assessment certificate to alter the design of its generators and add to the dam’s spillway.
All of this comes while the project sits at its lowest employment levels since mid-2016.
