A house fire near Hudson’s Hope claimed the life of a two-and-a-half month old girl earlier this week.
Hudson’s Hope RCMP were called to the scene of a house fire on Lahagarte Road around 3 PM on Wednesday. Officers saw flames coming from the home, and part of the home had collapsed. People at the scene were attempting to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby grass and trees. Police were told all residents had escaped the home and were taking shelter in a nearby home. There, they learned that the two and a half month old girl had died after being removed from the home. The father of the child sustained severe burns to his upper body and face while attempting to save his child. He was flown by STAR Air Ambulance to hospital for treatment, no names have been released. Officials are investigating the cause, though they say they do not suspect the fire to be suspicious.
A relative of the injured man told Energeticcity.ca the family didn’t have insurance and they’ve started a GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral costs for the child and for a new home. A link to the GoFundMe campaign can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/6g8sqx-house-fire.
