The Humane Society International Canada has stepped up to applaud the BC government’s decision to ban grizzly bear hunting.
The government followed through on an August promise to ban trophy hunting of the bears earlier this month, a decision which was met with much controversy and mixed feedback.
Humane Society Wildlife manager Julie Mac Innes says the ban will allow ecotourism to expand in the province.
She goes on to say that not only is this more profitable than the hunting of the animals, but it is also sustainable.
Mac Innes says the 15 thousand grizzly bears in BC can be better enjoyed through pictures throughout their lifespans than through trophies on shelves.
