Both the ICBC and the RCMP are encouraging the public to drive responsibly on New Year’s Eve and plan ahead before hitting any parties. ICBC spokesperson Joanna Linsangan said in a statement that planning ahead is the most important thing you can do to ensure a safe ride home. She suggests selecting a designated driver, taking transit, setting aside money for a taxi, or staying the night at a friend’s house. She also warns that party hosts take some responsibility and ensure that there are non-alcoholic beverages served for party guests. According to ICBC, an average of 10 people are injured in 50 crashes around the North Central region on New Year’s Eve every year.
