Amidst growing concern over recent layoffs, BC Hydro has released a puzzling report.
The report claims that local employment grew from 133 workers in July, to 836 in August. This is despite a total drop in BC employment by nearly 70 workers.
BC Hydro has since released a statement claiming that there could be an issue with the unusually high number of Peace region employees listed which, if accurate, would make up 43 percent of the project’s workers.
The company laid off as many as 60 workers not even one full week ago.
The report comes during massive pressure heaped on the company regarding growing costs and concerns over the mega-dam’s future tax effects.
