The provincial and federal governments have teamed up to develop a draft conservation agreement to support the recovery of mountain caribou in B.C. The agreement will start with herds in the Peace region. The agreement aims to reverse the decline of the mountain caribou’s population, by supporting recovery actions for the species. Recovery actions include protecting their habitat and range planning. The provincial and federal governments plan to conclude their negotiations on the agreement following discussions with Indigenous communities and stakeholders. A final agreement is expected to be reached in the spring of 2018.
