West Moberly First Nations chief Roland Willson is warning the provincial government that continuing the Site C project will cost them.

Chief Willson and Prophet River First Nation Chief Lynette Tsakoza say they warned Energy Minister Michelle Mungall and Indigenous Relations Minister Scott Fraser that if they continue construction on the project, the first nations will proceed with a $1 billion lawsuit against the government. According to the chiefs, Site C infringes on Treaty 8. They also say Site C violates at least four articles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

They say they’re waiting for the premier’s response.
